Veteran actor Chiranjeevi has faced widespread criticism for making a sexist remark about wanting a grandson to carry on his legacy. During the Brahma Anandam pre-release event, where he was the chief guest, Chiranjeevi jokingly expressed his fear that his son, Ram Charan, might have another daughter. The comment, which many have labelled as outdated and sexist, sparked outrage on social media.

Chiranjeevi had said, “I feel like I’m living in a ladies’ hostel at home, surrounded by women. I keep telling Ram Charan to have a boy so our legacy can continue, but he’s obsessed with his daughter. I’m scared he might have another girl.” The remark was seemingly made in jest, but it has added to the controversy surrounding the actor’s comments.

Netizens were quick to condemn Chiranjeevi’s statement, with one user sharing a video of the event and writing, “In 2025, the obsession with a male heir continues. Disappointing, but not surprising.” The user also shared their personal experience of being pressured to have a boy, saying, “It feels horrible when people want us to control things we can’t.”

Ironically, Chiranjeevi had earlier expressed his joy and pride when Ram Charan and his wife Upasana welcomed their baby girl in June 2023. At the time, he had written on social media, “Welcome, Little Mega Princess! You have spread cheer among the Mega Family of millions on your arrival.”
Chiranjeevi’s own family is filled with women, including his two daughters, Sreeja and Sushmita, and his granddaughters, Navishka, Nivrati, Samara, and Samhitha. Despite this, his recent comment has sparked a heated debate about sexism and the preference for male heirs in Indian society.
